Is it too late to exercise once you turn 50?

The short answer to this question is: absolutely not! Just because you have turned 50, or you consider yourself a ‘senior’ does not mean you need to stop your fitness journey. We believe you can still challenge and improve your balance and movement through exercise.

Here at Hubfit Plus, we have created a safe environment for adults over the age of 50 to improve their balance, movement and fitness. You might be wondering how we balance our kids’ classes with our plus classes, well we turn Hubfit into a fitness sanctuary for adults (50+) between 10 am and 2 pm every weekday.

How to start working out at 50 years of age?

Getting fit and having fun isn’t just for younger generations and chances are you are already exercising every day, you might just not know it yet! According to The Senior, 43% of baby boomers regularly garden for fitness. Additionally, walking daily or completing household chores are some of the most common forms of fitness you are probably already doing.

Nevertheless, if you are wanting to start your fitness journey, you have come to the right place. At Hubfit Plus, our trainers have experience in exercising with older people and can tailor classes to suit your body’s needs. You can feel confident in yourself and your trainer, by knowing you can participate safely while also having fun.

23% of baby boomers have avoided physical activity due to feeling like they wouldn’t fit in. Thankfully, Hubfit Plus focuses on building a supportive and encouraging environment. Our classes are structured to allow for socialising, so you actually get to know the others in your class, while also building a relationship with our trainers.

Exercise Classes for Seniors

Here at Hubfit Plus, we offer a range of classes to help challenge your body, improving your balance and movement. Our Functional Fitness class will strengthen your mobility through a functional workout. This class will help develop and improve the muscles you use during everyday activities. This is the perfect beginner session for those who aren’t sure what their fitness level is and is great for those experiencing a gym for the first time.

Our Prama classes improve mobility balance and coordination through interactive training. These classes will leave you feeling challenged while also allowing you to build new friendships through the social session. The Prama class provides our trainers with the flexibility to change the class to suit your needs, while still improving your cognitive function and overall body movement. Adults over 50 who’ve completed the Prama class previously have experienced improvement with their balance, reaction time, and coordination.

Metafit classes are a high-intensity workout focusing on body-weight exercises. If you are already familiar with exercise and enjoy a challenge, this class is for you. Our trainers will keep your body moving and blood pumping, and you’ll be burning fat while building muscle!

Circuit training classes use light-weight activities and will keep you interested as the exercises change every day. Each station involves a different activity, meaning you’ll get a whole-body workout at the level right for you. Participants noticed a huge improvement in their balance after participating in circuit training.

Finally, at Hubfit Active, we’ve developed tailored Yoga plans to improve your strength, flexibility and breathing. Our bodies are always changing, and this doesn’t stop once you are over 50! Therefore, our yoga classes encourage participants to listen to their body and focus their mind.

The benefits to exercising when you’re over 50

We’ve already mentioned how beneficial social exercise can be; however, studies show baby boomers feel physically stronger (61%), mentally stronger (41%), and ultimately more independent (34%) after exercising. Regular physical activity can add years to your life, and it’s never too late to get started. Benefits of exercise can include:

  • Increased energy levels
  • Boost cardiovascular health
  • Prevents illnesses and diseases, such as heart disease, Alzheimer’s, breast cancer, arthritis and more
  • Minimise symptoms of chronic conditions, such as menopause, lowered immune function and poor digestion
  • Improve mobility
  • Improve the quality of sleep
  • Boost brain and emotional health
